New touring frameset on the way!
We have decided to launch a “stock” touring frameset! 80% of the custom frames we build are for touring anyway, so why not. We think we have a lot to offer here, and we are excited to introduce our new touring frameset.
We spoke with a number of manufacturers in Taiwan and Japan, who assured us they were the people to make our frameset. After all, it is very hard to compete without outsourcing. That’s what nearly every other company who markets touring framesets does. So we got samples, and the quality was very good. But not perfect.
So, we have decided to make them here in our shop.
Why are we excited, and what do we think will set our touring frameset apart?
-Better overall quality. Near perfect frame alignment, hand brazed, meticulous build methods etc. etc. For touring framesets, we think this type of quality is important, and hard to get from an outside manufacturer concerned mainly with output.
-True Temper tubing, and cast lugs. We decided to go with True Temper tubing. We think it is the best.
-Lugged construction. Again, we think this is important. A frameset under heavy loads that needs to be reliable should be lugged.
-Super durable powder coat, you pick the color!
-Customizable options. Disk tabs? Over BB routing? No prob!
…but we still need a name. Anyone? Feel free to leave a comment!
Soon to launch new touring frameset!

Certainly there is nothing wrong with:
The Sanner Tour
Simple, honest, straightforward. But maybe it lacks pizazz. After thinking through the obvious choices of Ford SUVs (Explorer, Expedition, Excursion, Escape) and pack animals (Mule, Ox, Alpaca, Yak) It seems best to choose something that reflects our local area. With that in mind I submit two names. First, my second choice:
The Sanner Redwood
Strong, beautiful with ties to Palo Alto. But may favorite is:
The Sanner Skyline
Instantly recognizable to locals, rolls off the tongue and has a pleasing quality in general. And Tim, I would not be offended if you offered me a 60cm Sanner Skyline as a sign of your deep appreciation for this fantastic name!

Bicycle touring has an adventurous quality to it. I see a kinship between bicycle tourists and explorers. As such, I would call it the Lewis and Clark. You could call it the Vasco da Gama, but L

Tim,
I am looking for a new touring bike. I've been talking with Gunnar, and studying the Rivendell and Bruce Gordon bikes. I'm 5'8" and ride a 54 cm Serotta road bike. I'm interested in a sturdy frame, preferably lugged, with 26" wheels, for a transcontinental ride this fall, and maybe more adventurous trips in the future. Your frames look good and your prices are not exorbitant. How far along are you with the touring bike project? I am serious about this.
I look forward to hearing from you,
Thanks,
Mark Goellner MD

Sanner Skyline does sound good.
Would also be nice if there were a 650B version. Some people don't like toe-clip overlap, or how heavy 700C wheels become once you start using stout rims and fat touring-style tires.
I guess that's an argument for 26" wheels as well.

How about "seeker" has a sense of adventure, sounds nice with sanner?
I'm off to buy a lottery ticket to finance a spot in your frame building class. might be awhile.
